Council amends 2025 salary ordinance to correct fire department clothing allowance and fund splits

The Scottsburg City Council adopted Ordinance 2025-11 to amend the 2025 salary ordinance and correct two drafting errors: the fire department clothing allowance and the allocation split shown in the salary ordinance. Jan Hardy (Clerk-Treasurer) told the council the Scottsburg Fire Department’s annual clothing allowance had been listed as $500 in the salary ordinance but was budgeted at $750; the amendment will allow the city to pay the additional $250 per firefighter to five firefighters as budgeted. Hardy also said the salary-split percentages should read 10% electric, 10% water, 10% sewer, broadband 52.5% and the city 17.5%, and asked the council to adopt the amendment to align the ordinance with the adopted budget. Councilmember Tim Hall moved to suspend the rules and pass the ordinance by title; council seconded the motion and the ordinance passed on second and third readings during the meeting. Council recorded the change as unanimous and directed staff to issue the clothing-allowance payments and update the salary ordinance text.
