Grower seeks zoning change to expand greenhouse; planning commission gave conceptual feedback

The Planning Commission on Feb. 11 heard a conceptual presentation from the owner of Blossom and Bloom Greenhouse who said he wants to expand his business. The property is currently zoned R-2, a designation that does not allow the proposed expanded use; the owner was told he would need council approval for a zoning change and subsequent zoning map amendment.
Commissioners discussed the concept and gave feedback; the owner was warned that no approval was being granted at the meeting and that moving forward would be at his own risk. The owner said he will return to future meetings seeking ordinance changes to allow expansion.
The commission also heard part one of a zoning code rewrite presentation from Van Duwal and Associates and adjourned without taking action on the greenhouse proposal.
