The Park and Recreation Committee voted unanimously to approve several items and forward recommendations to the council. Committee members approved a public request to move the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rock from Memorial Park to the veterans memorial area at Taft Park. Several representatives of local veteran organizations spoke to the committee in favour of the move, and the motion to approve the relocation carried 10–0 in committee. The committee also voted 10–0 to recommend the council approve entering an agreement with the SCSEP Curative Connection Program to fill a position at the senior center and to support the senior transit system. Finally, the committee approved updates to the senior transit rider policy, including clarified wording on refusal of service, allowance for service animals, policies on carrying weapons, and a fee increase that committee materials said had already been in practice. The senior transit rider policy update carried in committee and was later presented to the council, where the council approved the update 9–0. The committee’s director’s report noted a 50/50 matching grant award for a boat launch overflow lot and courtesy dock project totaling $211,595.93; the committee listed potential future agenda items including acceptance of WDNR recreational boating facilities grant funding and intercounty MOUs.
