SAUCON VALLEY, Pa. — The Saucon Valley School Board approved a list of surplus and obsolete district items on July 9 but amended the motion to remove a subset of library books for further review.
The facilities committee had recommended a list of surplus and obsolete materials, which included library copies deemed unused. A board member raised objections to removing certain titles (including some classic and award‑winning works) and asked the librarian to reassess the items. The board agreed to postpone action on the books and struck them from the motion. The amended motion, which excluded the library titles, passed by voice vote.
The librarian explained that her initial weeding criteria included items published more than 10 years ago that had not circulated in five years, with additional consideration for award winners and curriculum titles. Board members asked for an additional review and at least one trustee offered to work with the librarian on the list. The books will return to the board at a future meeting for final disposition.
