Public Works reports progress on Oshkosh Street work; Board recommends petition to discontinue Glory Road

The Board of Public Works reported city engineers found a large portion of the Oshkosh Street storm main in sound condition but identified sections needing replacement; the board said all inlets and leads will be replaced and a combined main will be installed behind the curb from South of Jenning Street to Pershing. Board minutes said the sanitary main work is complete from Wolf River Avenue to just short of the Washington Street intersection and that laterals in the right-of-way are nearly finished. The minutes also noted We Gas crews have rehabilitated and relocated some gas facilities and that a bid for House and Alcan Road was awarded to MCC under an 80/20 STP local grant, with the Town of Liberty to share 10% of costs. Separately, the Board recommended that the council petition for a discontinuance of a portion of Glory Road so a new owner can plat the property to create a loop road connecting to Elkhorn Road; the board’s motion to recommend discontinuance carried unanimously at the committee meeting. The Board reported staff had reached out to area communities about contracted residential refuse pickup and reviewed current contract termination requirements for recycling services; staff said it hopes to have an RFP out by late May. No motion or council vote on citywide garbage collection was recorded at the meeting. The Board set its next meeting for Monday, May 5, 2025, at 5:15 a.m., and listed future agenda items including citywide contracted garbage collection.
