David (staff member) updated the commission on several building projects and maintenance priorities during the July 23 meeting. "I'm hopefully gonna meet with Neil Renny from facilities sometime tomorrow to go over the bids for the roof replacement at the, gate lodge at Matthews Park," David said, adding that the bids were "much less expensive than I originally thought. So, that will be good for our budget." David said he is seeking two additional quotes to repair and paint the veranda at the mansion and expects that work in August or September. On security systems, David reported the museum and Mill Hill video systems are no longer functional and that facilities is preparing quotes to replace them. He said he had obtained three quotes for a Mill Hill shed and expected installation in September or October after reconfirming one quote. Regarding the long-delayed jail interior restoration, David said architects and a mechanical engineering firm are finalizing mechanical plans and that a bid package is intended to go out this fall so construction could begin in the spring. "Planning to have the bid package finalized to go out to bid this fall, so that construction can start in spring, and we can finally finish the jail, which was damaged from the fire in 2010," David said. Commissioners asked follow-up questions about Pine Island cemetery volunteer work coordinated with Boy Scouts and about availability of cleaning products for cemetery maintenance; David said the scout effort may slip if he does not hear back from the volunteer. All updates were presented as staff reports; the commission did not vote on any of the projects during the meeting.
