Supervisors authorize grant actions: ambulance grant acceptance and multiple grant applications

Separately, staff sought permission to submit applications to the Woodland (referred to in the packet as the "Wiklian/Woodland") Foundation; the parks and recreation department and emergency services department each planned project applications to be submitted for the August 1 application deadline if the board approved. The board moved to authorize those applications.
The board also authorized applying to the Community Foundation of Southwest Virginia (New River Valley) to request up to $4,000 from the Wood County fund, noting the county has historically used such funds for fire and emergency services, parks and recreation, animal control and emergency communications. Staff said the funds, if awarded, would be unrestricted and could be allocated among several county departments and partner volunteer fire departments.
For hazard mitigation, staff described an application under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program administered in Virginia by the Department of Emergency Management for projects related to damages from Hurricane Helene. The two projects identified for the application were a Speedwell mitigation project and purchase of generators for all county pump stations. The board moved to approve the resolution authorizing the county to submit the hazard mitigation application.
