Seattle renters commission appointments stalled after committee loses quorum; prospective commissioners speak at community meeting

Council members and more than a dozen prospective appointees gathered at a community meeting called by the Housing & Human Services Committee after the panel lost quorum, and the committee did not take the scheduled vote to advance nominations to the full council. The meeting matters because the Seattle Renters Commission is statutorily mandated to have 15 commissioners and the commission currently operates with five members; commissioners said the vacancy undermines renter representation as Seattle remains a majority-renter city and faces ongoing displacement and homelessness pressures.
