The public works committee on July 21 approved installing a stormwater diversion at the entrance to Camelot Condos on Lancaster Road after a homeowner reported runoff crossing the roadway and entering her yard and house.
Planner Kale Smith presented a site view and described the proposal as a raised concrete or asphalt curb — similar to a small berm — that drivers could cross while redirecting stormwater into the opposite-side gutter. Smith told the committee there is no nearby storm inlet in the middle of Lancaster to tie into and that the nearest inlet is far down the street, so staff recommended the diversion as the practical solution.
Committee members discussed how the diversion would function during large flows and whether the measure would be sufficient; staff noted the homeowner’s yard slopes down toward the house and that alternative solutions (pipe tie-in) would be more expensive if a piped inlet were required. Councilor Hardin moved to approve the diversion; Councilor Gere seconded. The committee approved the installation 4-0.
Action: Staff authorized to install a stormwater diversion (raised curb) at the Camelot Condos entrance; staff will schedule construction and coordinate with the property manager and affected homeowner.
