Alpharetta approves $9,000 split with Milton for additional Mayfield Road demolition costs

The Alpharetta City Council voted unanimously to approve a first amendment to an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Milton to cover unanticipated demolition costs at the jointly owned Mayfield Road property. Director of Public Works Morgan Rogers told the council the amendment splits an added $9,000 expense between the two cities.
"We did find out during the process that 1 of the there was some additional asbestos that could not be seen from the outside... as well as there was an additional cost on needing to pump out 1 of the septic tanks that was there. That cost was $9,000," Director Rogers said. The amendment divides that cost so each city will pay $4,500.
Councilman Pipes moved to approve the First Amendment to the intergovernmental agreement; Councilman Mitchell seconded the motion. The measure passed unanimously. Rogers said the demolition work will complete the Mayfield Road project once the amended cost is paid.
