Park Board approves afternoon concert series contract; event permit set contingent on updated insurance

The Park Board on July 1 approved a contract with Bad Entertainment to produce an “Afternoon in the Park” concert series and approved the related event permit conditionally, the board said. The three concert dates are scheduled for July 13, Aug. 17 and Sept. 14.
Rose (Park Board member) summarized the schedule and asked about permit and noise exemptions; staff said the events are daytime (roughly 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and that the permit requires legal review because the certificate of liability needs to list both the city and the park board. A staff member said: “My only request is that the permit be approved contingent on approval by legal because we're just still waiting to get the updated certificate of liability.”
The board discussed entertainment types for each date: a Motown band in July; a country performer, Sean Richards, in August; and blues programming in September. Board members described Sean Richards as a touring artist with recent recordings and said the September date will include a weekend of blues programming.
A motion to approve the contract with Michael Wells of Bad Entertainment carried by voice vote. A separate motion approving the event permit also carried, with the permit approval explicitly contingent on city legal confirming the updated certificate of liability that names both the city and the park board.
