Parks board grants several summer event permits; Delight Restaurant Group’s ‘Frosty 5K’ approved contingent on liability and name change

The City of Elkhart Parks & Recreation Board on July 15 approved several event permits for summer activities in city parks, including a Sarah Strong Run, a Movie in the Park at Studebaker Park and a Frosty 5K organized by the Delight Restaurant Group.
Jamie Tate, identified herself as a director of operations for local restaurants and said the Frosty 5K is a fundraising run for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption; she said the three local restaurant owners had about 30 participants signed up at the time and that all entry fees collected would go to the foundation. Tate said participants would likely walk or run and that organizers might place a few signs in the park for awareness.
The board approved the Sarah Strong Run and the Movie in the Park by motion. For the Delight Restaurant Group’s Frosty 5K, board members approved the permit contingent on two items: receipt of the organizer’s proof of liability insurance and an agreement with the Delight Restaurant Group to reconsider the event name because the city already has another “Frosty” event, which could cause confusion.
A parks staff member said approval would be contingent on those items and that the permit process requires proof of insurance for events. The motions carried with unanimous votes.
Board members also discussed the potential for confusing event names and suggested organizers use the Dave Thomas Foundation name or another identifier to reduce confusion with existing local events.
