The Board of County Commissioners opened bids and approved a single bid to resurface County Road 4A in Florence on July 22, awarding the work for $252,406.

County Highway Superintendent Randy Falvey said the work is a 2-inch mill and overlay covering about six blocks in Florence and that the bid packet included a surety bond and mobilization for a dig-out area in front of the Florence fire department. "As stated, this is to open bids for resurfacing, which is a 2 inch mill and overlay for our County Road 4 A," Falvey said.

Falvey recommended accepting the lone bid, which the board recorded as coming from Denik Incorporated of Prinsburg, Minnesota, and which he summarized would include a three-inch rock foundation with a base course over fabric at the dig-out location. Commissioner Johnson moved to approve the bid and Commissioner McElhaney seconded; the motion carried.

The board recorded the motion as approving a bid in the amount of $252,406 (motion text in the minutes used the name "Dunnick" when moving to approve). The highway superintendent and the board did not identify additional contractors or alternate bids during the public session.

Discussion during that agenda item also included a separate question from a commissioner about the South 81 state project and whether contractors had completed additional lifts at the start and end of that segment; Falvey said the South 81 work is a state-managed project and he had not spoken with the state contractor.

The board formally awarded the contract and closed the bid opening with no recorded dissent.
