Board hears first local animal West Nile case, 24 mosquito positives; officials discuss vaccine clinic logistics and emergency-preparedness duties

Staff also briefed the board on public‑health emergency preparedness for Region 2. The region has issued a new emergency dispensing site plan and the department needs to submit an annual letter naming a primary representative (who votes for the town) and an alternate. Michael said he is willing to continue as the representative and recommended an alternate; a board member moved and another seconded a motion to designate “Micah” as the representative and Emma Jager as the alternate. The board discussed Health Alert Network drills (HAN drills) used to test contact lists and emergency notifications and noted that participating staff receive drill notices by email. Staff said drills typically check login and contact verification and may occur monthly or bimonthly.
On vaccines, staff said regional flu‑vaccine orders had included multidose vials that contain thimerosal, a preservative sometimes used in multidose vials, and that the region had been working to exchange multidose vials for single‑dose units where possible. Staff also said a new COVID vaccine formulation had been announced but availability and insurance coverage details (including Medicare) remained uncertain at the time of the meeting. The department said it would coordinate clinics and notify the public when scheduling is finalized.
