The City Council announced the timeline for filling the District 5 vacancy. A public candidate forum hosted by Unified Outreach is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. tonight at North Seattle College and will be broadcast on the Seattle Channel. During tomorrow’s regular council meeting the council will begin business one hour earlier, at 1 p.m., to hold public interviews of the finalists.
The council described the interview format: each finalist will have three minutes for an opening statement and introduction, followed by up to 10 minutes of questioning from each councilmember. Council members were told a timer will be displayed to help manage time. The council also said members may meet privately with finalists between now and the special appointment meeting.
If the council selects an appointee during a special meeting, the appointment vote is scheduled for Monday, July 28, at 9:30 a.m.; the council indicated that if no candidate is selected in the morning meeting, regular business that day will be replaced by continued special council meetings until an appointment is made.
