The Erlanger City Council on June 3 adopted a resolution authorizing local match funding to pursue a Kentucky Product Development Initiative (KDPI) site‑readiness grant for property along Houston Road North and Old Erlanger Road.
City staff described the KDPI funding as a multi‑round program the city entered in fall 2024. Staff said the grant would pay for engineering and geotechnical work needed to prepare the site for development and to lower eventual infrastructure costs. City staff said the grant award is $40,000 and the city’s required match is 20 percent, or $8,000.
“As Peter indicated, this is a $40,000 grant, to do some infrastructure, site readiness, investigatory work, and engineering work. And, the city would have to match that with $8,000,” a city staff presenter explained during the meeting. Staff said the work would include soil borings, a review of existing utilities and whether utilities need to be relocated or extended, and other due‑diligence steps necessary before issuing an RFP for development.
Staff recounted the application history: the city passed the first round last fall, advanced through a January site visit, and reached the due‑diligence round that requires this local‑match resolution. Staff said if the site is found to be unsuitable, KDPI would assume responsibility for the money spent; if the due diligence is favorable, the city’s 20 percent match applies to the work performed.
Council voted to adopt the resolution by voice vote. The motion was made by Ms. Jasper Lucas and seconded by Ms. Recker; the clerk announced “Aye” and the chair said “Motion carried.”
