A member of the public, David Beach, spoke against any tax increase, saying, “I vote no for any tax increases. You guys waste the money. Please stop raising taxes. It affects everyone.” Council members who discussed the item said they regretted that public participation in the appointment process was limited but noted that the pro and con positions will be represented on the public statements committee. Council commentary named Dennis Flynn as a regular participant on the con side and referenced former state senator Andy Billig and former mayor David Condon as appointees on the pro side; the members said voters will receive perspectives from both sides.
The committee appointments are intended to provide voters with official short statements appearing with the ballot measure; no changes to the levy language were made during the meeting.
