Paulding County fleet department reports 1,132-vehicle inventory; new maintenance facility groundbreaking underway

Paulding County’s fleet maintenance director gave an annual update showing the county’s vehicle and equipment inventory has grown significantly since 22 years ago and that construction of a new fleet maintenance facility is underway.
The director, who identified herself as Tanya (fleet fire maintenance director), said the county now manages about 700 vehicles and 432 pieces of equipment for a total inventory of roughly 1,132 items. She said 397 of those vehicles are assigned to public-safety agencies; the sheriff’s office accounts for 299 vehicles and the fire department 72.
For fiscal year 2025, the fleet department completed 4,431 service and repair orders, dispensed 441,386 gallons of fuel from county pumps, and added 94 vehicles to the county fleet including three new fire engines and 23 pieces of equipment. The department sold 73 surplus items via auction that returned about $258,000 to the general fund and transferred one Freightliner to Haralson County for $10,000, the director said.
Tanya said the department’s oldest vehicle is a 1985 Chevrolet bus used as the EMA mobile command unit and the highest-mileage vehicle is DOT Unit 109 with about 332,000 miles. She said Hogan’s Construction Group started groundbreaking in June for a new fleet maintenance site after a May 20 ceremony and that the department plans to incorporate ASE EVT certifications and CDLs to create pay steps tied to technician certifications.
