The Finance Committee approved a schedule of four meetings to review the mayor's recommended 2026 budget and confirmed staff deadlines for department submissions.
Danielle (staff member) said department personnel requests were due by Friday and capital improvement requests were due by July 25; operational budget requests were due August 1. She said staff will compile cost estimates for requested new positions and include them in department submissions.
The committee set four review dates and a 5 p.m. start time for the finance committee budget-review sessions: September 23, September 25, September 29 and October 1, all beginning at 5 p.m. (staff and several committee members discussed alternative dates earlier in the meeting before arriving at these dates). The committee also noted the mayor plans to present the recommended budget on September 16 and that the public hearing and adoption are scheduled for November 11.
The committee voted to adopt the review schedule and asked staff to ensure department heads and invited stakeholders (for example, the library board) have opportunities to appear on appropriate review dates.
Ending: The committee approved the calendar and instructions for compiling the mayor's recommended 2026 budget and forwarded the schedule to the council process.
