Ishpeming seeks $900,000 to replace 20-year-old frontline pumper

Representative Bonac presented a $900,000 request from the City of Ishpeming on June 11 to replace the fire department’s frontline pumper truck. Ishpeming’s fire department serves about 8,200 residents across the city and three surrounding townships and responds to roughly 150 emergency calls a year, officials said.
Mayor Craig Artis and department representatives told the subcommittee the current pumper is 20 years old, has become increasingly unreliable and that maintenance has recently exceeded 30% of replacement value. The truck the city seeks is specified with a modern pumper control system, a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump and a 1,000-gallon water tank.
