Planner previews Hampton Hills comprehensive-plan update; staff to reduce file size and post chapters online

A planner presented a draft update to Hampton Hills’ comprehensive plan and told trustees she will reduce file size and post chapters separately to address resident display problems. The update matters because the comprehensive plan guides land-use policy, open-space priorities and future development choices for the village. The presenter, Jane (planner), said two residents had called before the meeting reporting they could not view portions of the plan on their computers because the PDF file size prevented maps and pages from displaying properly. She said she will reduce the export file size from the plan software and consider posting the plan by chapter on the village website so residents can reliably view maps and text. Jane reviewed the plan’s structure: the village’s first comprehensive plan was adopted in 2007, the most recent in 2012 with assistance from CMAP and Tesc Associates, and the current 2025 draft retains a four-chapter structure with reorganized chapter titles and a new land-use chapter pulled from lengthy material in the prior plan. She said the planning and zoning commission’s goals included relying on public input, updating data and maps, strengthening language about open space, and improving clarity and brevity. Trustees will receive the draft for review; no vote occurred. The presenter said staff will make technical fixes to the PDF and post the plan in smaller sections to help residents access the document for public review. Next steps: staff to reduce file size, publish chapters on the village website by chapter and return with the plan for further board consideration.
