The City Council authorized the city manager to sign an order for 41 Flock Safety Falcon automated license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras and associated implementation services, approving a purchase order totaling $200,650.
Chief Frederick Andrews said the purchase is part of a package funded by a Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) grant previously accepted by council. Under the grant, MVCPA will cover $167,158 of the total cost; the city’s share is $33,442. The cameras were described as a complement to two officers and a crime analyst funded under the same grant award.
“Under that grant, we received two officers, a crime analyst, and 41 Flock Safety cameras,” Chief Andrews said. “The city manager would be able to sign this agreement for us to start having the cameras installed in our community.”
Councilman (name recorded in vote) moved approval; the motion carried 6-0. Councilmembers expressed support after clarification that the city’s out-of-pocket obligation totaled approximately $34,000.
Ending: Staff will proceed with the order and implementation steps. Installation scheduling, exact camera placements and data-access protocols were not detailed at the meeting; staff said those implementation items are part of the vendor onboarding process and subsequent operational planning.
