Superintendent Taylor told the board that bargaining with the certified association concluded recently and that the district would present the negotiated contract for ratification at a June 23 meeting. Taylor said the contract will be circulated before that meeting and that the board will be asked to empower the superintendent to sign it upon ratification.
Taylor also reported on the student success committee’s third meeting of the year. The committee — a mix of students, parents, staff and community members — reviewed district data, performed a collaborative math exercise and completed a social-emotional learning activity. The superintendent said committee members largely recommended continuing and deepening several district priorities: consistent administration and use of the MAP Growth assessment, continued K–12 career exploration and career-planning activities beginning in elementary grades, clearer communication to families about district focus and successes, ongoing focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) with connections to supports for students most in need (English language learners, special education, early readers), and continued emphasis on improving attendance.
Taylor noted preliminary MAP Growth and Panorama SEL data will be shared in the fall, and reported that districtwide regular attendance is roughly 72 percent, while several schools — notably the middle school — showed marked gains this year. Board members praised the committee and thanked volunteers with relevant budget and accounting experience who supported budget review.
Why this matters: the bargaining outcome leads to a ratification step that will finalize employment terms for certified staff. The student success committee’s recommendations will guide instructional priorities and district data use in the coming year.
Next steps: contract documentation will be provided before the June 23 meeting; staff will present fall MAP Growth and SEL results and follow up on committee recommendations.
