Council approves 195-foot wireless tower permit at 1519 Forjaw Road

The Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended approval of ACU 25-01 before the council hearing. During the council meeting, there was no public comment on the application. Council member McKinney moved to approve the permit; Council member Meyer seconded, and the roll call recorded six “yes” votes and one absence.
Why it matters: the permit creates a new tall structure in a rural-agricultural zoning district and includes a waiver of the district’s height limit, enabling a telecommunications provider to place equipment on a taller-than-normal tower.
Councilwoman Laverne asked whether the proposed facility would be limited to a single carrier. Ryan Shahan, representing the applicant, said, “Vertical Bridge specializes in building towers and then leasing space to the various providers. So the anchor tenant is gonna be Verizon. That’s why they’re actually listed on the application. But then we’re also marketing that tower out to your AT and Ts, T Mobiles, and any other provider.”
The Planning and Zoning Commission record, read into the council minutes, shows the commission’s motion to approve was moved and seconded and recorded as six ayes, zero nays, and one absent. The council’s motion to approve likewise passed with six yes votes on the council roll call. No conditions or public restrictions limiting which carriers may use the tower were stated during the meeting.
