Village approves replacement computers, laptops and fiber upgrade to improve upload speeds

The Finance Committee and full board approved a set of information-technology purchases and an Internet upgrade at the July 21 meetings.
Committee members authorized waivers of formal bidding to use government master agreements and approved: purchase of seven Panasonic laptops for police vehicles from CDS Office Technologies for up to $34,545; purchase of 10 desktop computers, nine monitors and workstations and other equipment from Dell EMC for up to $71,586.41; and a five-year Comcast Enterprise agreement not to exceed $65,997 to move many municipal connections from coaxial service to fiber. Finance staff said the laptop purchases are the village's annual replacement program and that the police laptops are configured for vehicle use.
IT staff explained that moving connections from coax to fiber will significantly increase upload speeds and make links more resilient and synchronous, benefiting large uploads such as police evidence files. Staff also said old computers are wiped of data and offered for auction; unsold devices are recycled through vendors.
All items were approved by committee and later included in an omnibus vote by the full board.
Why it matters: The fiber upgrade addresses slow upload speeds that staff said limit evidence transfers and other municipal needs; hardware replacement maintains the village's device pool and follows data-wiping and auction/recycling policies.
