The 3 Rivers School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to name the district’s recently completed athletic building at Illinois Valley High School for longtime coach Jay Miller.
Erica Butler, Illinois Valley High School vice principal, presented a summary of Miller’s career and community contributions, saying he started a youth wrestling program in 1977, coached for nearly 40 years, produced multiple district and state placers and received national recognition for lifetime service to wrestling.
Board members spoke in favor of the naming as a way to honor Miller’s impact on the Illinois Valley community. A motion to name the facility the Jay Miller Athletic Building passed without recorded opposition.
Administrators said the naming followed a local nomination and community committee review; no financial obligation to the district was reported in the discussion. The board did not attach conditions to the naming and the change is effective immediately.
