Board approves multi‑year cybersecurity services agreement amid district pilot
Summary
The Gresham-Barlow School Board approved a multi‑year purchase of cybersecurity software and services from Technicon; staff said the district entered a pilot that brings significant discounted services and 24/7 monitoring.
The Gresham-Barlow School Board on June 18 approved a purchase of cybersecurity software and services from Technicon to be paid over three years.
IT presenter Jeff Gibbs told the board the district was accepted into a cybersecurity pilot administered through the SCC and that the pilot provides substantially discounted services. Gibbs described the product as advanced endpoint monitoring and response — “kind of a souped‑up antivirus” — that monitors systems for activity such as file encryption or data exfiltration and is monitored 24/7 by cybersecurity experts. He said the pilot’s total value could be up to $403,000 over three years and characterized the district’s cost as a discounted share.
Board member Holly Regalman moved to approve the purchase from Technicon; Blake Peterson seconded. On the motion the chair recited the cost in the meeting record as $173,542.40 over three years. Directors voted aye and recorded the action as unanimous. Board members directed staff to provide updates as implementation proceeds.
Staff said the system will begin phased deployment and that IT will report back to the board on progress. The board did not amend the purchase amount on the floor; the motion, as recorded in the minutes, sets the approved district expenditure.
