District staff explained that some pilot materials had been acquired directly from publishers and the publishers would not return those materials through Northwest Textbook Depository; to avoid duplicative shipping and handling costs the district will pay publishers for materials already in hand and procure remaining subscriptions and materials through Northwest Textbook Depository. Staff said the total purchase remains at or below the previously approved $244,255.
The board approved the purchase motion as amended. Trustees said the change is an administrative procurement detail that reduces logistical cost and does not increase the amount authorized by the board.
Administrators said textbooks already on hand represent about two‑thirds of required materials; Northwest Textbook will supply the rest and host the online subscriptions used for teacher and student access.
