After the July 3–5 celebration, commission members reported that several portable toilets were inaccessible to servicing crews because they were placed inside barricaded zones. Some units became unusable and had to be closed on July 5, the commission said, creating shortages for the final festival day.
Members said the vendor that provides portable toilets was unable to access units to clean because concrete barrier placement and staging blocked vehicle access. To avoid recurrence, the commission recommended ordering additional toilets, positioning them outside barrier lines so servicing vehicles can reach them, and adding more hand-washing stations to reduce demand on any single unit.
DPW staff attendance at the final planning meeting was requested so the department can identify accessible placements, determine whether barriers can be staggered to preserve access, and advise whether servicing would be done by truck, hose or bucket. Commission members also discussed adding more hand-washing stations near food areas and parade staging to limit long service runs for refilling water and towels.
