Select Board endorses draft police chief job description and directs publication

HAMPTON, July 21, 2025 — The Select Board reviewed and endorsed an updated job description for the town police chief, directing the town administrator to publish the position for recruitment. Brian, the town administrator, said he had worked with Chief Trombley to update an older, boilerplate job description dating from approximately 2009 and presented a revised draft for the board’s endorsement. Brian told the board that, because the Select Board is the appointing authority for the chief, the board should approve the job description rather than having the chief approve his own description. Board members discussed education and experience language in the draft; the job description reads to allow a combination of education and experience including military police experience to be considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree where appropriate.
