Council accepts $9.5 million FAA grant for runway extension via consent agenda

Morgantown City Council approved its consent agenda on July 22, which included acceptance of a Federal Aviation Administration grant to support a runway extension at the Morgantown Municipal Airport.
City Manager Jamie Miller told council the most significant item in the night’s consent agenda was acceptance of a $9,500,000 FAA grant for the runway extension project and congratulated airport staff for securing the award. “That is our biggest news of the night related to the airport,” Miller said.
The consent agenda was approved by roll call with six yes votes and no opposition. The consent package also included other grant applications and intergovernmental agreements; the airport grant was specifically identified by staff during the city manager’s report.
Council did not discuss the grant in detail during the meeting; the grant acceptance was part of the omnibus consent vote approved earlier that evening. Staff said they will assist the grant writer with required grant administration tasks and follow-up reporting.
