April Hampton, speaking for the owners, said the project would replace a steep set of stairs and convert a window at the rear into a full‑light, 15‑light divided door with an adjoining deck that leads to the dining/kitchen area. “They want to take that window… make that a full light, 15 divided light door,” Hampton said.
Commissioners and staff discussed construction details and directed that if the deck closes the crawl space, the owners must provide ventilation (foundation vents or equivalent) to avoid moisture buildup. A staff member told the commission to ensure ventilation or adequate clearance above grade if the space is enclosed.
A motion to approve the deck passed. The approval included the board’s expectation that the applicant address ventilation and crawl‑space access to prevent moisture problems.
