Commission approves brick patio at 16 South Perry Street in Garden District

The Montgomery Historic Preservation Commission on Oct. 5 approved a removable, sand‑set brick patio at 16 South Perry Street in the Garden District intended to serve as a bridal/wedding patio.
The applicant, Christina Cadman of 16 South Perry Street, told the commission the proposed patio is roughly 47 by 67 feet, would be built on a sand bed with sanded joints so the bricks can be lifted and sod replaced if the feature is removed. “We have weddings and the foot traffic just kills the grass,” Cadman said.
Commission staff and the Garden District Preservation Association confirmed the patio would not be used for parking. Laura Callaway of the Garden District Preservation Association said, “As long as it's not going to be used for parking, we don't think that there is any reason to object to it.”
Commission staff asked about construction details; Cadman said the bricks will be installed with sanded joints, not grouted, so they can be removed. The commission moved and seconded a motion to approve the project as submitted; the motion passed.
The approval is for a sand‑set, removable brick patio built to the dimensions shown in the application; no additional conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes. The commission's staff will retain the project file and inspect for compliance with the approved materials and installation method.
