Greenwood council approves annexation of about 100.67 acres with commitments on drainage, trails and tree preservation

The Greenwood Common Council on Monday approved Ordinance 25-14 and Resolution 25-10 to annex approximately 100.67 acres between County Road 125 West and County Road 200 West into the city, passing both measures on first and second readings by a vote of 9-0 after amending the proposals with plan-commission commitments.

The annexation matter was sponsored by Council member Campbell. Council member Lexi moved the ordinance and Council member Hopper seconded; Council later adopted several amendments including commitments to follow the Unified Development Land (UDL) plan, provide pedestrian crossings for Honey Creek, create a meaningful internal trail connection to the Honey Creek Trail and preserve healthy, noninvasive trees. The plan commission gave a favorable recommendation, 9-0.

Why it matters: The annexation will extend Greenwood’s corporate boundaries and set development standards for the site. Council members and several nearby residents raised questions about drainage, road improvements and how the developer will protect existing trees and sight lines for neighbors.
