District finance staff told the Greater Albany Public SD 8J board they had added $556,000 in anticipated Title I funding to the 2024–25 budget appropriation, pending final confirmation and program planning with principals.
“We received 556,000 in Title I. So we've added that for the budget appropriation,” Jane said, adding that district Title I coordinator Bonnie would work with principals to create the program once the funding is certain.
Separately, district grant staff reported that the Oregon Department of Education had informed districts of across-the-board reductions affecting competitive and formula grants. Kelsey, who attended the ODE meeting with Jason Dorsett, said ODE indicated there would be broad reductions and that the district and the state would seek to apply reductions equitably across recipients.
“We were informed that across the board, all grants, there will be a reduction of about 20,000,000,” Kelsey said, referring to state-level reductions; she said the cuts would not be limited to the Black Student Success Grant but would affect multiple grant programs and that district staff would share updates as they learn more.
Ending: Staff said they will notify the board as grant amounts are finalized and will work with principals and grant partners to adjust program plans if state reductions are confirmed.
