The Cheyenne Finance Committee on July 22 recommended approval of a memorandum of understanding between the Cheyenne Police Department and Laramie County School District No. 1 governing School Resource Officers.
Sergeant Pete of the school resource unit told the committee staff made no major changes to the MOU but added city-provided cell phones. “The only thing we did add was the city now provides cell phones. The school district will pay the, all the service fees, and that's for us to add technology that we use at the police department to help the SROs do a better job and be more efficient,” Sergeant Pete said. Sergeant Pete also said the department currently staffs seven SROs: “We have 7 SROs, the 3 high schools, the 1 alternative high school, and the 3 middle schools.”
The committee moved to approve the memorandum and voted to forward the MOU to the City Council for consideration at its next meeting.
