County accepts $139,524 DOJ grant to expand prosecutor-based victim services

The Anoka County Board on July 16 authorized acceptance of a $139,524 grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs to fund prosecutor-based victim services. The grant will support expansion of services to underserved populations, including elderly and non-English-speaking crime victims, for a 12-month period beginning Oct. 1, 2025.
Commissioner Breasted presented the time-sensitive resolution (2025 PS-12), saying the funds would support the elder-abuse specialist and a bilingual specialist in the county's Victim-Witness Unit. County staff said the amount is generally consistent with prior annual awards; one commissioner asked for a brief history of past awards and staff agreed to provide the last three years' amounts after the meeting.
The board voted by roll call and approved the resolution unanimously. Commissioners asked staff to forward historical grant-amount information to the board and to continue coordinating the program with the county prosecutor's office and victim-services staff.
