County to advertise sealed bids for jail elevator repair

The Lawrence County commissioners on July 22 authorized staff to advertise for sealed bids to repair and/or renovate the elevators at the county jail. Warden Stuart Wallmeister described the procurement timetable: the county will advertise on July 23 and July 30, with bids due by 3:00 p.m. on August 4 and an anticipated public bid opening at the commissioners’ meeting on August 5. Commissioners and jail leadership discussed the county’s ability to review and award bids promptly; commissioners said they would convene a special meeting if necessary to expedite an award. Commissioner Sonata, who chairs the prison board, said the item has been a top priority and thanked staff for preparing specifications. Maintenance supervisor Kevin Tripoyer was noted by jail leadership for his detailed oversight of the project during planning. The board approved the resolution to advertise for bids by roll call. Staff noted two weeks in August currently lack regular Tuesday meetings (Aug. 12 and 19), so a special meeting may be scheduled to award the contract if review timelines require faster action.
