Summary
After a months-long committee process, the Board of Education unanimously approved new logos for Cicero–North Syracuse High School and a district brand, following a presentation from the district communications officer and a promise of a phased rollout and brand guide.
Laurie Cook, communications officer for the North Syracuse Central School District, presented the district's branding work and told the Board of Education the district would move to a consistent, phased rollout of new logos and a brand guide. "By not having a consistent logo and brand, there's been some confusion that has happened in the community," Cook said. The board later voted to adopt the proposed logos.
The district formed a stakeholder committee and reviewed multiple logo iterations focused on preserving two core elements: the Sienna star and the North Star name. "Through open and thoughtful dialogue, 2 truths consistently emerged. The power of the Sienna star and the enduring meaning of the North Star name," Cook said, adding that those elements are "foundational" and needed to be preserved.
Cook said the committee leveraged existing relationships and started with the high school identity because of several concurrent capital projects, including a planned community pool at the high school. She told the board the district would follow the high school's approval with a formal district brand guide developed in partnership with City BOCES and that the rollout would be phased to minimize waste and include staff training on consistent logo use.
Board members thanked Cook and other participants for the work. One board member asked which two board members had participated on the logo committee; Cook said the high school's executive principal and the interim superintendent had worked with two board members and other stakeholders to refine the designs.
At the meeting's action portion, the board voted to adopt the North Syracuse Central School District logos. The motion was approved unanimously.
The district said next steps include finalizing a brand guide with City BOCES, completing a phased materials rollout, and providing staff training on correct logo usage and visual standards.
