Board presented Perkins grants for CTE: $754,876 basic grant plus $50,000 reserve request and OSHA trainer funding
Summary
District staff presented the Carl D. Perkins basic grant ($754,876.90) and a $50,000 competitive Perkins reserve grant for welding simulators. Staff also proposed using $9,000 from Innovative Schools Model funds to certify in-house OSHA trainers for CTE high school students.
Rutherford County Schools presented Career and Technical Education funding requests at the work session and asked the board to approve grant applications and targeted uses.
Staff presented the Carl D. Perkins basic grant application for 07/01/2025–06/30/2026 with an award amount of $754,876.90 to support CTE program improvement, equipment, travel and staff development. Separately, the district presented a $50,000 competitive Perkins reserve grant application to purchase welding booth trainer simulators for Riverdale High School’s agricultural mechanics CTE program.
The CTE department also requested roughly $9,000 from the Innovative Schools Model grant for fiscal 2025–26 to send high school CTE staff through an eight-day OSHA train-the-trainer program. Staff said the in-house OSHA trainer would reduce barriers for students seeking OSHA and other industry certifications.
Board members had no substantive objections recorded in the work session; staff will move forward with the grant applications per the district’s grant calendar.
