Summary
City staff requested and received approval July 21 for daytime road closures and detours to restore pavement after the Lockwood and Heather drainage project; staff said closures will be phased by street, use previously approved detour signage and will not close the entire area simultaneously.
City staff asked the Norwalk Traffic Authority on July 21 for permission to close portions of George Avenue, Lockwood, Heather, Corey, Katie, Bridal and Woodcrest for day‑time paving to restore pavement over drainage trenches, and the authority approved the request.
Staff member Mr. Stanton said the work is part of the Lockwood and Heather drainage project that has been underway since last summer. The paving activity was always part of the larger project, Stanton said, and the current request is to permit daytime closures and detours while crews restore pavement and trench areas across the neighborhood.
Stanton told the authority the work would generally occur during daytime hours, cited approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and that closures would be staged so the whole area would not be closed at once. He noted the commission had previously approved overnight closures for George Avenue in December; this request covers daytime restoration activities. The contractor’s mapping includes a detour plan and sign placement, including a BMS sign southbound coming off Westport Avenue for George Avenue detours.
Commissioners asked for and received clarification that the detour plan mirrors the prior approved plan and that some smaller streets would only be closed for a day or two while longer streets would require several days. A Police Department representative indicated no objections. The authority approved the closures with the presented detour signage plan.
Stanton and staff will continue to coordinate signs and phasing with the contractor and police as the work proceeds.
