Eversource outlines final Norwalk street restorations; night work scheduled to limit weekend impacts

Justine Cyr said sidewalk work will start at 90 Water Street July 28 and run through Aug. 1 as daytime work; milling and paving curb to curb is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 4 and run through Aug. 7 with work Monday–Thursday nights (Cyr listed nighttime hours as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.). The presentation included a contingency four‑day work week, Aug. 11–14, if weather or delays require it. Permanent striping was listed as tentatively the week of Aug. 25 and requires a curing period after paving.
Cyr said the schedule originally requested a five‑day work week but was changed to Monday–Thursday to reduce weekend impacts on nightlife and boating traffic on Route 136. She told the authority the project will start at the sidewalk and then progress to milling, paving and striping; the plan calls for outreach to affected businesses and a desire to avoid nighttime or weekend work where possible.
A Police Department representative said staff meet weekly with Eversource and were comfortable with the plan. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the schedule; Cyr said her scheduler was updating the plan and apologized that an updated sheet was not available at the meeting.
The traffic authority voted to approve the traffic plan as presented. Cyr emphasized Eversource expects this to be the company’s final restoration work in the city and that, barring weather or other issues, the company does not expect to return after the scheduled work.
