Booth County commissioners voted to delay final action on a sheriff’s budget item until the September meeting and discussed related administrative and insurance issues involving sheriff’s office personnel.
A motion to postpone consideration of certain sheriff budget transfers passed after commissioners noted that the county lacked a mechanism at that moment to transfer funds and that staff needed to draft an appropriate resolution. Commissioners said they were deferring the item to allow time to prepare the required paperwork and clarifications.
During public comment and subsequent discussion, commissioners asked staff for an update about a county vehicle that had been destroyed. Staff said an adjuster from the insurance company was being set and that it was not yet clear whether insurance would fully cover the loss. The county reported the employee involved received three days off; some commissioners expressed the view that three days was insufficient. Commissioners said they would look into insurance coverage and the administrative outcome.
Separately the board discussed a pending bailiff position; commissioners said they had one candidate in mind and expected to proceed with that hire.
No final policy changes were adopted at the meeting; staff were asked to return with clearer documentation on fund-transfer mechanisms, insurance adjuster findings, and any disciplinary or administrative actions tied to the vehicle incident.
