Booth County commissioners reallocate remaining sewer funds to replace jail pump

Booth County commissioners voted to use remaining funds from a county sewage project to replace a pump and make other repairs at the county jail. The motion passed after commissioners discussed the scope and the available balance from the related project.

Commissioners approved using the leftover parking/sewage-project funds to repair the jail’s failed pump and complete necessary associated repairs. County staff said the pump had “burn[ed] up completely” and that a change-order request would be filed so the contractor could address the work within the existing contract.

The move matters because it redirects funds previously set aside for another phase of the county sewer work into immediate repairs at a county facility. County staff indicated there was “a little over $100,000” available from the project to support the change order; commissioners asked for clarification of the cost and for staff to process the change request through the normal contract channels.

Discussion and votes on the motion took place during the meeting’s new-business portion under agenda item 23. Commissioners did not specify a precise line-item number for the transfer during the discussion; staff said a formal change-order request from the contractor (Mr. Rai) would document the needed adjustments.
