"It's about a 2 year project," an engineering staff member said. "The crossing will probably be next spring, and we will likely have the detour with the added lane on Clear Lake Boulevard ahead of that." The staff member said utility relocation work is under way and that the contractor will phase the work to limit traffic disruption.
Other work and sequencing: Engineers told the board the project will include a planned roundabout at McClung and Park and paving of the remainder of Park Street slightly past McClung and Bach. Maple Street work is delayed while NIPSCO completes gas utility relocation, and Weller Street completion depends on utility work and a preconstruction meeting for the Soldiers Memorial Park well field and associated pipeline.
Why it matters: Project phasing and utility coordination determine timing for road closures and final paving. City staff cautioned that many local road projects depend on utility relocation schedules; Chase of those tasks is necessary before paving crews can complete surface work.
