The Beaverton School Board on June 2 completed its annual evaluation of Superintendent Gustavo Balderas and reported the board is pleased with his performance for the 2024–25 school year.
The evaluation follows a yearlong process of fall goal setting, midterm check-ins and a final review. The board cited accomplishments including a personal-device policy to limit cell-phone use, expansion of dual-language programs, development of multi-tiered systems of support, rollout of universal screeners, free school meals implementation, progress diversifying the workforce, and the launch of a public data dashboard.
At the same meeting, Balderas told the board the district will present a proposed budget for board approval next Tuesday. He said the district's overall budget is $1,700,000,000 with a general fund budget of about $787,000,000 and acknowledged cuts primarily to the district office; he said the district will pursue broader community engagement in planning for fiscal 2026–27.
Trustees said they expect continued use of data reporting, more community engagement opportunities and a planned district review of staffing models. The written evaluation highlighted on‑time implementation of an ERP HR system and bond projects delivered on time and on budget as accomplishments.
The board asked staff to begin conversations this fall about “stair-stepping” budget reductions so that the district can phase adjustments rather than make abrupt cuts. The evaluation and the budget preview set the agenda for next week's formal budget hearing and vote.
