The La Porte Common Council on July 21 approved a resolution appropriating additional funds to cover higher costs for projects tied to the 39 North overpass and related local-match track work. The council approved: $475,000 from the general fund (common council local-match tracks project), $99,070 from the seeded/local-match fund, and $54,018.80 from the major moves construction fund, for a combined total of $628,088.80.
Councilwoman Ficus read the resolution and explained the increases reflect rising costs for the east-side overpass project. The council opened a public hearing on the proposed appropriations, confirmed publication of the notice in the Herald Dispatch on July 2, heard no public comments, closed the hearing and moved to approve the resolutions.
Council members voted to approve the additional appropriation measures. Officials said the supplemental dollars are necessary because cost estimates were not finalized at the time the 2025 budget was adopted, and the appropriations will allow the city to continue procurement and construction work on the overpass project.
The appropriations will be processed according to city budget procedures and subject to any required state reporting.
