The Lynchburg City Schools Board of Education on Tuesday laid out committee memberships and liaison assignments for the 2025–26 school year and reminded members that committees of three or more board members are public meetings that must have agendas and minutes posted. The board chair described assignments for standing and ad hoc committees, naming Daryl Connor, Mr. DePaul and Mr. Allen to the Finance and Facilities Committee; Mr. Jalil, Dr. Farmer and Mr. DePaul to Legislative Advocacy and Community Relations; and Miss Lowry, Dr. Farmer and Mr. Baron to the Academic Success Committee. Ad hoc discipline and student-discipline review committees were assigned to Mr. Connor, Mr. Baron and Mr. Poe; an ad hoc achievement-gap committee will include Lowry, Dr. Farmer, Carl Luce, Danny McCain, Dr. Day, Kim Dyke, S. Campbell and Kay Fleming. Board members were also named as liaisons to outside boards and community groups: Leticia Lowry to Laurel Regional and CVCC; Mr. Poe to Governors Accelerate Academy; Dr. Farmer to the Education Foundation; Poe and Baron to Beacon of Hope; and Alani and Farmer to Partners in Allocation. The superintendent and staff will be included in policy work groups; governance defaults to the chair and vice chair. Board members and staff emphasized compliance with open-meeting rules and internal procedures: whenever three or more board members attend a meeting for committee business, that meeting must be posted in BoardDocs and minutes recorded. The board also directed that policy work-group meeting dates be coordinated with the superintendent and that minutes be retained. No formal vote to change board bylaws was recorded during the discussion; the remarks described assignments and documentation expectations and asked staff to finalize names and meeting dates.
