Board proclaims June Pride Month; Franklin students and advocates press district for more gender-neutral restrooms

The Portland Public Schools Board of Education adopted Resolution 7-118 recognizing June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Portland Public Schools during its June 10 regular meeting.
Superintendent Kimberly Armstrong introduced the agenda item and turned the dais over to Dr. Renard Adams, who delivered a speech asking the board to "double down" on commitments to LGBTQ+ students, staff and families. Board members spoke in support before a recorded roll-call vote found the measure approved 7-0.
