Staff told the board they will request an extension to move routine tax filings that were originally due in May to November; the extension is expected to be free of charge. A staff member said the office will gather a trial balance and other small items needed for the extension and expected to have the paperwork completed by the next meeting.
On nonprofit status, staff updated members that the group’s application for 501(c)(3) status had been submitted and was still pending with the IRS. The latest status in the meeting noted the application was “still waiting to be processed” as of March 18; staff said they would continue to monitor and try to expedite the review.
Staff reminded board members that while the 501(c)(3) application is pending the organization may still receive tax-deductible donations but cautioned that if the IRS later denies the application the organization would need to address the donations retroactively.
Board members asked for periodic updates. Staff committed to check the IRS status and to bring the trial balance and extension paperwork forward for approval at the next meeting.
